Borrisoleigh do the Business in the Munster Hurling Senior C Semi Final.
St Josephs College Borrisoleigh 1-17
Colaiste An Piarsaigh Glanmire 0- 10
Well done to St Josephs College who progressed to the Corn Ui Mhatuma final with a hard fought victory over a very strong Glanmire outfit. A point from Sarsfields young star Finn O Connor got the Cork side up and running early and soon after were denied a goal chance by some resolute defending. This set the tone for the match as every possession was fought for tooth and nail.
Two fine points by half forwards Cathal Kennedy and Liam Hackett nudged St Josephs in front before the key score of the game came from Toomevara’s Cody Quirke when he rifled a thunderous shot past Finín O Donovan in the Glanmire goal. With momentum on the Tipperary side they up the intensity and rattled off a succession of points from frees and play to race into 1-05 to 0-03 point lead but to their credit Glanmire rallied to make it a 3 point game near half time but inspirational scores from Borrisoleigh duo Eoin Ryan and Shane Ryan pushed out the advantage to 7 points at the half.
Facing a breeze and a motivated Cork team, St Josephs really battled for every single ball in the second half.
With centre back Tom O Flynn now in the forwards and the always dangerous Jack Tierney Colaiste an Piarsaigh threw everything at it and were it not for the excellent teamwork personified by team captain Micheál Collins of Templederry and Silvermines Mark Hoare the result may have been different. Points were exchanged on both sides but crucially shot stopper Oisin Ryan’s goal was never breached. The outstanding play of David Rabitte at 6 and Daniel Groome at 3 flanked by Cormac Frend and Adam Whyte broke Cork hearts time and time again.
And as the clock ticked towards full time some late St Josephs frees edged the score difference to 10 points.
The full time whistle brought great celebrations from the boys in maroon and the large and vocal travelling support. St Josephs now march on to a Munster Final date versus Dungarvan CBS on the last weekend of January and we wish them the very best of luck.Tipperary Schools are reaping the benefits of the huge work being put in by teachers, schools and clubs across the board in the county.
