Intermediate County Championship.
The bean counters of The Premier ‘View’ Pod have put their heads together and delved into the intricacies of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship.
As we approach Quarter-Final weekend (&Relegation Semi-final) in the Tipperary Intermediate County Championship, there has been 19 games played at this level and no shortage of great encounters. Two clubs have played four games each (Kilsheelan & Skeheenarinky) while everyone else has played three. Four teams have now hung their boots up for another year while eight strive for glory & four fight for their lives.
Interesting times ahead indeed.
The Premier ‘View’ Intermediate Power Rankings are also updated and can be seen here ahead of the weekend. How can there be changes you may ask, well the draws put a different complexion on things don’t they.
From a club point of view four teams, Boherlahan, Moneygall, Cappawhite & Borrisokane, remain unbeaten with the latter two having the only 100% records in the division. Kilsheelan/Kilcash are the only team still standing not to have finished in the top two of their respective group but qualify for the Quarters by virtue of a South Final win & a preliminary victory over fellow South men Skeheenarinky.
So lets get into the nitty gritty. Borrisokane were the highest scorers from the group stages scoring an impressive 5-73, closely followed by last years beaten finalists Moneygall who have an equally impressive 6-66 from arguably the toughest group in the competition. After the preliminary game Kilsheelan take over as Top scorers with 96 point total (7-75).
When you look at the averages Borrisokane are scoring a huge 29.33 points per game while Moneygall average out at 28 points per game. Kilsheelan score 24 points per game while their quarter final opponents, Cappawhite, score 22 points. Boherlahan’s 24 points per game against Kickhams 23.33 points means there won’t be a whole pile of difference in this game. In the last Quarter-final Drom average out at 22.33 per game while opponents Golden/Kilfeacle are only managing 15.67 per game and could struggle this weekend.
At the opposite end of the scale Ballybacon/Grange escaped the relegation dogfight despite only averaging 11.67 points per game. Upperchurch on 14.67 along with Shannon Rovers & Kiladangan on 15.67 need to up that scoring rate if they are to survive. Arravale Rovers on 18.67 might consider themselves unlucky to be involved.
Goals win games, or so they say but the now eliminated Carrick Davins ripped up that script and pilfered an impressive 8 goals in their 3 games while Boherlahan have 7 from three games and Kilsheelan have 7 from four games. Of the Quarter finalists Cappawhite & Golden will need to find the back of the onion bag more regularly if they are to progress.

On the individual Tipperary Intermediate County Championship stats Mark Kehoe has really come into his own in the last week smashing four goals and also sitting atop of the ‘From play’ table. He could be even further ahead for all we know as despite numerous requests we don’t have a breakdown of the 19 points scored by Kilsheelan in Round 1(if you have access to this we’d really love to have them). Joe Fogarty sits atop of the overall charts with 40 points scored in his three games so far. Dylan Walsh(37) and Mikey O’Dwyer(31) sit in 2nd & 3rd. Kilsheelan share the scoring workload and have three scorers in the top 20.

As expected this competition is one of the best and tightest in the county with no shortage of Quality. Last years winners Lorrha are unbeaten in Premier Intermediate showing maybe the gap isn’t all that wide between the two grades.
Three of the quarter-finals are on Saturday 16th while the last game is on Sunday. Both Relegation games are on Saturday also.
