Post Round 1 Rankings
We’ll go again. Ridiculed, Bloodied, Beaten. It’s only banter but my god it’s oh so serious. The Intermediate power rankings are the opinion of a few but loved by many. People are outraged when they are not no.1 and are also outraged when they are no.1.
It’s a no win situation for our ‘experts’ but we love it all the same.
The Davins threw up the performance and shock of the round with a fantastic 3-point victory over Newport, scoring 3-20 to boot.
And boy didn’t podcaster Stevie Cronin love it.
Stephen can be heard talking about what it meant to the Davins on the Rd 1 review Podcast.
West men Golden/Kilfeacle and Cappawhite showed why they are in the top 4 while Knockavilla enhanced their reputation with the disposal of 2024 runners-up Ballingarry.
Kilsheelan showed top form in the 2nd half to down North Intermediate Champions Shannon Rovers while fellow North men Borrisokane needed an injury time 1-01 to get over West reps Arravale Rovers.
Top Scorers Table After Round 1.
| Player’s Name | Club | Scored |
|---|---|---|
| John Sheedy | Portroe | 2-08 |
| Orrin Jones | Arravale Rovers | 0-13 |
| Cillian Collins | Newport | 0-12 |
| Jamie Roche | Kilsheelan/Kilcash | 3-02 |
| Tomas Vaughan | Skeheenarinky | 1-08 |
| Oisin Larkin | Borrisokane | 0-10 |
| Padraig Dalton | Golden/Kilfeacle | 3-01 |
| Stephen Browne | Knockavilla Kickhams | 0-10 |
| Conor Martin | Cappawhite | 0-09 |
| Jack Leamy | Golden/Kilfeacle | 0-09 |
| Tommy O’Connor | Kilsheelan/Kilcash | 0-09 |
Let’s see where things have moved.
1. Golden/Kilfeacle – The West men are favourites to go up and did nothing to dispel that rumour with a professional dispatching of Ballybacon/Grange. Padraig Dalton came into the team and scored 3-1 from Play, while Jack Leamy (0-09) and Niall Heffernan were once again in top form. The defence held Ballybacon to 4 points from play. NO CHANGE
2. Cappawhite – The West Intermediate winners move up a spot with a terrific display on Friday evening last. 31 points in any game is serious scoring and while the concession of 3 goals is a concern, Conor Martins form, 0-9 from play, shows Cappawhite are in it for the long haul. Up 1
3. Kilsheelan/Kilcash – The South IntermediateChampions continue their charge up the rankings with a power packed 2nd half display in Round 1. 5-08 is some going with Jamie Roche hitting top form with 3-02. They did it all without Barry Kehoe too. A round 2 tilt with Golden will tell a lot. Up 3
4. Knockavilla Kickhams – The Dundrum side were well on top in Holycross Sunday evening, even before the injury to Ballingarry’s Dylan Walsh. Shane Buckley was back in the side causing problems and David Butler was back in a more comfortable role in the inside forward line. Breen was back too and with Duncan and Conor Horgan to return they look odds on to top their group now. Up 4

5. Shannon Rovers – Stay at 5 despite losing in round 1. They have the safety net of a North championship under their belt and will get a round 2 win over Ballybacon. The 2nd half collapse will worry John Tierney and Co but plenty of time to get it right again. No Change
6. Borrisokane – Borris had a good win over Arravale Rovers, albeit needing injury time Gary Ryan (1-01 from play) to bail them out. With Newport in a bit of bother Borrisokane look in a good spot to top their group. Up 3
7. Portroe – No Change for Port. Will be disappointed with the concessions of 31 points but showed real fight and in John Sheedy (2-08 of a Round 1 tally with 1-02 from play) they have one of the stars of the Intermediate competition. Expect them to get out of the group. – No Change
8. Ballingarry – The big faller here and a potential season ending injury to Dylan Walsh won’t help matters. We expect the South men to still have enough to get out of the group without Walsh as experience counts at this level. Down 6
9. Skeheenarinky – The South side had a comfortable enough win over Moyle Rovers with Conor Sweeney (0-03 from play), John Martin and Tomás Vaughan (1-08 in total) all standing out in a potent full-forward line. Play Cappawhite next but their Round 3 clash with Portroe will be the one to watch. Up 2
10. Carrick Davin – A tonic Victory for the Carrick side. Full of pride and passion and more Pa Harris Goals (2-01). Newport were favourites in everyone’s book but Carrick through the form book out the window. Need to back up the performance against Borrisokane. Up 4
11. Newport – Need to get their act together pronto. The fitness of talisman Colin Floyd must be a worry. Out-worked by Carrick Davin they are now under a lot of pressure in the group but a 2nd round win could still see them top the group yet. Watch this space. Down 7
12. Clonoulty Rossmore – Showed a lot of guile and experience getting over Drom & Inch. Two Nathan Slattery goals set them on their way and with Tom Butler and Aaron Ryan back to form they will be a handful for Kickhams in Round 2. No Change
13. Arravale Rovers – Will be disappointed not to see out Round 1 against Borrisokane. Down six at the half they powered into the second period and were two up with time up. However in a pattern going back to 2024 they let it slip. Newport next is huge for progression. Will be a game to watch. Down 2
14. Moyle Rovers – Lost to Skeheen but probably performed better than the two below them. Not too much between the bottom 3 in our Intermediate Power Rankings and We think the relegated team will come from them. The 2025 Junior Champions will need to adjust quickly to the grade and it won’t be easy in their next two. Up 2
15. Ballybacon/Grange – Four points from play is poor in any mans language no matter who it’s against. 50 year old Brendan Cummins again on the scoreboard with four frees. Game was over by half time and they are in a tough group. It won’t get much better against Shannon Rovers. They have been circling the drain in the Intermediate for the past few Years, is this the Year they finally succumb ?. No Change

16. Drom/Inch – Didn’t fire at all in Round 1. Look like a team in trouble against Clonoulty and with Ballingarry now in Round 2 and Kickhams in 3 it could get ugly for the mid sides second Team. Down 3
