Minor B Hurling TOTY
After a massive Public vote by the Premierview Podcast listenership, We are delighted to announced the Minor B Hurling Team of the Year for 2023.The 2023 Minor B Hurling County Finalists are well represented here,Newport overcame Moycarkey Borris on a score line of 2-14 to 0-16 back in October and its reflected here in the voting for the Minor B Hurling TOTY by our listeners.
1.Darragh Patterson Moycarkey Borris
Darragh is a typical example of a ‘Poacher turned Gamekeeper’. He is an
opportunistic forward with an eye for a goal. Took on the Moycarkey Borris goalkeeping duties this year to great effort.
Great temperament, good first touch and an accurate puckout.
2. Luke Kennedy Newport
A versatile defender who played in the fullback line and half back line at different times throughout the year. One of the team leaders who’s bursts out of defensive lifted the Newport team and supporters many times throughout the year.
3.Harry Lee Newport
Harry Lee is a teak tough defender who always puts his body on the line. Had a solid year and saved his best performance for the county final.
4.Dara McGrath Newport
Found form at the right time and cemented his place on the team at the start of the championship.
Made some great goal saving hooks and blocks during the championship and was having a fine game in County Final before having to come off injured.
5.Adam Power Newport
One of Newport’s most improved hurlers this year who really drove them forward with his pacey runs from wingback. Gave a man of the match performance v Upperchurch in the county quarter final.
6.Killian Cantwell Moycarkey Borris
Killian is a skillful athletic player with great pace, and exceptional ball striking ability.
Well able to take a long-range score from both, play and placed balls. His versatility means he can
play comfortably in any position on the field of play.
7.Louis Coughlan Moycarkey Borris
Louis is a teak tough defender with a tremendous ability to read the game, cut
down space and win back possession. He displayed great leadership qualities all year, putting in
consistently solid performances.
8.David Costigan Moycarkey Borris
David is a strong, well-built athlete and a talented hurler with great leadership qualities. He is well capable of taking long range scores and always provided inspiration for his teammates when most needed. A Powerhouse for the Mid Champions all year at midfield.
9.Daithi Whelton Newport
Another player who came in to form and nailed down his starting place for Newport’s North final win over Kiladangan. The go to man when it comes to man marking jobs for Newport and with his energy and work rate he inspired his teammates around him and was outstanding for Newport in all their knockout games.
10.John Fitzgerald Moycarkey Borris
John is a skilful, first touch forward with great pace and an eye for a score. He had a great year, putting in solid, consistent performances during the championship campaign.
11.Shane Flanaghan Newport
The Newport Foundation Stone ,A real team leader who played centre back centre field and centre forward for the North Champions throughout the year. Gave a man of the match performance in the North Final against Kiladangan at centre back and was a vital physical presence all year for Newport.
12.Callum Poole Newport
The fastest man on the Newport team who scored heavily for them all year. Has a great eye for goals and scored the important first goal for Newport in the county final which gave them a huge lift at that particular time. Callum put in a massive shift in that final with tireless running from wing forward on the day.
13.Jack McCarthy Newport
One of Newports main scoring threats all year. Jack saved his best performance for the County Final victory where he scored 5 points from play in a Man of the Match performance.
14.Jack Hayes Moycarkey Borris
Jack is a very skilful, pacey forward and proves a handful for any opposing defender. Accurate from both play and placed balls and has a keen eye for a goal. Possess a great first touch and is a fine striker of the ball.
15.Darragh Mackey Newport
Darragh brought fantastic energy and work rate to the team all year. Always the first man in to the breaking ball and always willing to put his body on the line. Got a great point in County Final at a vital time in the first half.
