Munster Schools Senior C, the state of Play for 2025.
The TUS Corn Risteard Ui Mhathuna has always been one of the most unpredictable competitions in the Munster schools calendar, but the 2025 group stage has taken that reputation and amplified it. With six groups, twenty one schools and a broad variety of styles, structures and approaches, this year’s edition has served up everything from clinical, system driven hurling to some of the wildest high scoring contests anywhere in the province.
From mid October to late November we saw teams explode with early dominance, others grow round by round and a few struggle from the first throw in. Some groups were dominated by one power team, others were packed with volatility where every week produced a different winner. The scoring numbers were massive, the swings were dramatic and the overall standard varied wildly depending on the match up.
With the group stages fully completed, every scoreline reviewed and every statistic accounted for, we have built a clean and accurate Power Rankings list for all twenty one teams, ranked from twenty one up to the top spot. This ranking considers scoring for, scoring against, consistency, form trends, performances under pressure and how teams responded against stronger opposition.
Below is the complete twenty one to one ranking with expanded analysis on every team, followed by a closing assessment on what the knockout stages may deliver.
21. Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney
Record: P3 W0 L3 D0
Scoring: For 6, Against 33, Difference –27
Blarney had a brutal campaign in a very tough Group 1. They opened with a 1-3 to 3-24 defeat to St Josephs Borrisoleigh and then had to concede twice, against St Marys Newport and again versus Presentation College Mardyke. Their only on field scoring return was that 1-3, and they conceded 3-24 in their only completed game. On form and numbers, they are clearly 21st.
20. Coláiste Iosaef, Kilmallock
Record: P2 W0 L2 D0
Scoring: For 36, Against 44, Difference –8
Kilmallock were competitive in both outings but could not find a win. They lost 2-20 to 1-17 against CBS Dungarvan and 1-15 to 0-16 against Presentation Ballingarry. Two honest performances, two defeats, and a negative scoring difference sees them just ahead of Blarney but still pinned inside the bottom three.
19. St Augustines
Record: P2 W0 L2 D0
Scoring: For 34, Against 40, Difference –6
St Augustines were right in both of their Group 5 games. They lost 2-14 to 1-19 against Clonakilty Community College and 1-11 to 2-12 against Coláiste An Phiarsaigh Glanmire. There was nothing soft about either display and they were competitive right through, but no points on the board and a negative difference keeps them in 19th.
18. Glanmire Community College
Record: P2 W0 L2 D0
Scoring: For 38, Against 42, Difference –4
Glanmire’s group was nasty. They lost 1-21 to 1-19 to Causeway in Round 2 and then 1-15 to 1-13 against Patrician Academy Mallow in the final group game. Two losses, but both games were tight and they pushed a very strong Mallow side all the way. That keeps them ahead of the other winless teams, even if they still sit down in 18th.
17. Presentation College Mardyke
Record: P3 W1 L2 D0
Scoring: For 17, Against 26, Difference –9
Mardyke’s campaign was shaped by concessions. They were awarded the Round 3 game by concession from Blarney and themselves conceded the Round 1 fixture to St Marys Newport. Their one full on field game was a 3-17 to 2-11 loss to St Josephs Borrisoleigh in Round 2, where they put up 2-11 but leaked 3-17. One win, two losses, and all of it in a savage group earns them 17th.
16. Causeway Comprehensive School
Record: P2 W1 L1 D0
Scoring: For 40, Against 61, Difference –21
Causeway opened with a hammering from Mallow, going down 3-30 to 1-13, but to their credit they responded with a 1-21 to 1-19 win over Glanmire Community College. Their scoring is decent, but no side in the competition carries a heavier concession total in just two games. The win saves them from the bottom tier, but the numbers keep them in 16th.
15. Scoil Phobal Roscrea
Record: P3 W1 L2 D0
Scoring: For 55, Against 84, Difference –29
Roscrea started very well with a 2-17 to 1-18 win over Salesian Pallaskenry. From there, things went south. They lost 4-29 to 3-13 against Ard Scoil Na Mara, Tramore and then 1-19 to 0-10 against Borrisokane Community College. The early win shows there is quality there, but the subsequent hammerings drag them down to 15th on both form and statistics.
14. St. Caimins Community School Shannon
Record: P3 W1 L2 D0
Scoring: For 60, Against 89, Difference –29
If you want chaos, you go to Group 2. Caimins lost 3-22 to 0-11 against Kanturk, then were overrun 4-23 to 1-15 by Youghal, before exploding with a 4-19 to 4-11 win over Ennistymon in Round 3. Their attack can clearly do damage, but they conceded 89 points across three games. The volatility is entertaining, but it locks them into 14th.
13. Ennistymon CBS
Record: P3 W1 L2 D0
Scoring: For 64, Against 90, Difference –26
Ennistymon were involved in three high scoring games. They lost 5-22 to 3-7 against Youghal, beat Kanturk 3-16 to 3-13, and then lost 4-19 to 4-11 to Caimins. Their attack is among the better mid tier units in the competition, but no team conceded more. One good win in between two shootout defeats puts them just above Caimins in 13th.
12. Coláiste Treasa Kanturk
Record: P3 W1 L2 D0
Scoring: For 67, Against 68, Difference –1
Kanturk are one of the most difficult teams to place. They opened by annihilating St Caimins 3-22 to 0-11, then lost 3-16 to 3-13 to Ennistymon and were well beaten 3-23 to 0-14 by Youghal in Round 3. Their overall scoring difference of –1 is much healthier than the sides ranked below them and that, combined with a massive Round 1 win, holds them in 12th.
11. CBS Dungarvan
Record: P2 W1 L1 D0
Scoring: For 37, Against 40, Difference –3
Dungarvan beat Kilmallock 2-20 to 1-17 in Round 1, then ran into a very well drilled Presentation Ballingarry side and lost 1-17 to 1-8. The numbers are middling but they have one strong win, one decent defeat and a small negative scoring difference. That puts them slightly above the Group 2 chaos and Roscrea, but just outside the top 10.
10. Coláiste An Phiarsaigh Glanmire
Record: P2 W1 L1 D0
Scoring: For 38, Against 35, Difference +3
Coláiste An Phiarsaigh had two tight, high quality games. They lost 1-18 to 2-14 against Clonakilty in Round 2, then beat St Augustines 2-12 to 1-11 in Round 3. Their scoring difference is positive, their defence is relatively solid and they showed they can close out a game under pressure. A tidy, well balanced side at number 10.
9. Clonakilty Community College
Record: P2 W2 L0 D0
Scoring: For 43, Against 40, Difference +3
Clonakilty quietly put together a perfect group record. They beat St Augustines 1-19 to 2-14 and then edged Coláiste An Phiarsaigh 1-18 to 2-14 in Round 2. Their scoring numbers are not spectacular and they do concede, but two wins from two in a competitive group earns them a place in the top half of the rankings and makes them a dangerous knockout side.
8. Salesian Secondary College Pallaskenry
Record: P3 W1 L1 D1
Scoring: For 71, Against 71, Difference 0
Pallaskenry have one of the most interesting statistical profiles. They lost narrowly 2-17 to 1-18 against Roscrea, then hit 1-25 in a wild 1-25 to 4-14 win over Borrisokane, and finished with a 1-19 to 1-19 draw against Ard Scoil Na Mara, Tramore. Level on scoring, level on form, and capable of blowing teams away when they get going. They sneak into 8th, just inside the top tier.
7. Ard Scoil Na Mara, Tramore
Record: P3 W1 L1 D1
Scoring: For 79, Against 72, Difference +7
Tramore’s numbers are huge. They lost 3-19 to 1-13 to Borrisokane in Round 1, then hammered Roscrea 4-29 to 3-13 and finished with that 1-19 to 1-19 draw against Pallaskenry. Their attack is one of the best in the competition, but they concede plenty as well. The combination of a massive win, a draw and a loss to a strong Borrisokane team puts them firmly in 7th.
6. St Marys Newport
Record: P3 W2 L0 D1
Scoring: For 26, Against 26, Difference 0
(Two concession wins counted as 0-0)
Newport’s raw scoring numbers lie to you if you do not account for context. They were involved in three fixtures:
- Awarded a win when Presentation College Mardyke conceded in Round 1
- Awarded a win when Blarney conceded in Round 2
- Played out a classic 4-14 to 1-23 draw with St Josephs Borrisoleigh in Round 3
Because both concession wins are recorded as 0-0, their For and Against totals only come from the draw, leaving them on 26 For and 26 Against. In reality, they are unbeaten on the field, top quality in open play and right in the conversation with the big hitters. Sixth is a fair reflection of that.
5. Presentation Ballingarry
Record: P2 W2 L0 D0
Scoring: For 38, Against 27, Difference +11
Ballingarry put together an excellent mini campaign. They beat Kilmallock 1-15 to 0-16 in Round 2, and then took care of CBS Dungarvan 1-17 to 1-8 in Round 3. That is two strong wins, a very good defensive concession total and a scoring difference of +11 from just two games. They are one of the best defences in the competition and fully deserve a top five slot.
4. Borrisokane C.C
Record: P3 W2 L1 D0
Scoring: For 76, Against 54, Difference +22
Borrisokane have been in the thick of it from day one. They opened with a 3-19 to 1-13 win over Ard Scoil Na Mara, Tramore, then lost a wild 1-25 to 4-14 shootout to Salesian Pallaskenry, before finishing strongly with a 1-19 to 0-10 win over Scoil Phobal Roscrea. Their attack is top class and their scoring difference of +22 in a very competitive group is one of the best in the competition. That earns them fourth.
3. St Josephs Borrisoleigh
Record: P3 W2 L0 D1
Scoring: For 85, Against 49, Difference +36
St Josephs have been superb. They destroyed Blarney 3-24 to 1-3 in Round 1, beat Mardyke 3-17 to 2-11 in Round 2 and then went toe to toe with St Marys Newport in that 1-23 to 4-14 draw. Across three games they scored 85 points and conceded 49. That is the third best scoring difference in the competition, in a group that had no soft touch apart from Blarney’s struggles. A clear top three side.
2. Patrician Academy Mallow
Record: P2 W2 L0 D0
Scoring: For 57, Against 32, Difference +25
Mallow’s two games tell you everything about them. In Round 1 they blasted Causeway 3-30 to 1-13, a monstrous scoring return at this level. In Round 3, with the group on the line, they dug out a 1-15 to 1-13 win over Glanmire Community College. They can run up cricket scores when given space and they can grind when needed. With 57 For and just 32 Against, they have the second best defence in the competition by average concession and the second best attack by total among the group winners. That makes them the main challengers to Youghal.
1. Pobail Scoil Na Trionide, Youghal
Record: P3 W3 L0 D0
Scoring: For 104, Against 48, Difference +56
Three games, three huge wins:
- 5-22 to 3-7 against Ennistymon in Round 1
- 4-23 to 1-15 against St Caimins in Round 2
- 3-23 to 0-14 against Kanturk in Round 3
That is 104 points scored and only 48 conceded. Youghal have the best attack in the competition by miles and, despite playing three wild open games, still carry one of the top defensive records. They dominated a volatile Group 2 from the first day and never looked like being caught. On results, on scoring difference and on eye test, Pobail Scoil Na Trionide, Youghal are the clear number one in the 2025 Corn Risteard Ui Mhathuna Power Rankings.
Conclusion
The Corn Risteard Ui Mhathuna rarely disappoints and the 2025 group stage has been one of the most entertaining editions in years. From massive scoring surges to tight tactical battles, from runaway leaders to teams fighting for every inch, the competition has produced something for everyone.
With the knockout rounds approaching, the picture is clearer but far from settled. Youghal sit at the top and fully deserve the number one ranking, but Mallow are right behind them with serious attacking power. Borrisokane, Ballingarry, St Josephs and St Marys Newport all look capable of going deep, while several mid ranked teams have shown enough to suggest they could produce a shock if they hit form at the right time.
If the group stage is anything to go by, the knockout matches will be intense, physical and full of scoring. Expect late drama, unexpected heroes and at least one big story that nobody sees coming. The Corn Risteard Ui Mhathuna is only warming up and the next chapter promises even more.
