Crafting Cahill’s Crew, 8 Dynamic Hurlers Who Deserve a Closer Look.
Could These 8 Hurlers Make a Mark in Liam Cahill’s 2024 Tipperary Squad ?
14th November 2022,Liam Cahill announces his 40 Man Squad, for the 2023 League and Championship, He has changed tack in November 2023 and is holding off on announcing a Squad till January 2024.
With this in mind and not knowing exactly who has been called in, We are going to fire out a few names based on their Club Championship performances who could and should be looked at, We are going to discount the likes of Billy Seymour ,Top scorer in the Senior Club Championship, Who We know has been called in.
1. Mikey Whelan Carrick Davins
All Ireland Minor Winner at Full Back under Liam Cahill in 2016, Called into the Tipperary U21 Squad under Willie Maher in 2017,His progress with Tipp then seemed to get derailed with Hamstring Injuries, At 25/26 Years of Age ,He is a big 6ft plus block of a man with serious athleticism, can hurl anywhere in the backline but Davins have employed Himself and Lee Mackey to great effect in Midfield this year, Has worked under Cahill for a good few years whilst underage so will know what the Ballingarry Man demands.
He previously was on the Tipperary Radar in 2021,Where He Hurled for the South Division in the Miller Shield at Centre Back, Is He deserving of another look ?,We think so.

2.Colm Fogarty Lorrha-Dorrha
Just turned 21,the Lorrha man like his father Willie before him, is lethal on frees, Playing at Wing Forward for the 2023 Premier Intermediate Champions, Fogarty finished third in the Top Scorers Table with 1-54 to his name,1-16 from play.
He was part of the 2022 U20 Tipperary Squad beaten by Limerick that year in the Munster Final, He didn’t play v Kerry in that Munster Campaign and in the other 3 Games, He didn’t start but each time was drafted in as a sub, There’s no Questions over his Hurling Ability, Could a blast of Senior Inter County Level S&C drive him to the next level?.

3.Decky McGrath Kiladangan
“He is an unbelievable talent, He tweaked a hamstring or calf for a finish, that is why he came off. His display was exceptional. A super player. He certainly has the gears to go further.” John O’Meara the Kiladangan Manager concurs with our assessment of Decky and his Tipperary Senior Potential. Operating mainly at Wing Back or Midfield this year, McGrath scored 0-04 in Kiladangans march to Dan Breen, His Work rate is Outstanding and his Vision and Stickwork can be summed up in this clip.
4.Keane Hayes Gortnahoe Glengoole
If Tipp are looking for a metronomic free taker as a back up to Jason Forde, We know just the Man!. Keane Hayes racked up 0-63 in this years Premier Intermediate Championship, no less than 0-49 came from his free taking ability, 9.8 points a game he averaged from frees across Gortnahoe’s Championship this Year. Could he do it for Tipp as a Free Taker ?,Playing Club Premier Intermediate ?,It hasn’t seemed to impede Forde who is arguably now the one Forward, Tipp can’t live without.

5.Mikey O’Shea Mullinahone
Mikey O’Shea probably first came to many Tipperary Fans attention as a goal getter, when as a Minor Sub in the 2018 Minor All Ireland Semi Final loss to Kilkenny that year, he grabbed 2-01,(See Clip Below).Part of the Tipp u20 Squad in 21,He has also played in the last 2 U21 County Finals losses for the Mullinahone men v Moycarkey in 2021 and v Thurles Sars in 2022,scoring a combined 1-09 over the 2 days, but its his Senior Club form this Year that has Us Cheerleading Him for a Tipperary Senior Call Up, The 22 Year Old has scored 4-12 from Play in 4 games, in this Years Senior Championship.
6.Darragh Woods Holycross Ballycahill
While looking up this Years Scoring from Play Charts in the Dan Breen, another Young Sharpshooter jumped out at us, Darragh Woods scored 2-17 from play for the Mid Men as they made a County Quarter Final v the eventual County Champions, Woods scored 0-5 from play and 0-5 off frees that day, it also seems to us that when he’s in the zone, HE IS IN THE ZONE, as anyone who seen him scoring 3 first half side lines and running up a 0-12 total v Mullinahone in their 2022 Round 3 Dan Breen Group stage win will attest. and he was at it again this Year, 1-13 v Templederry and 1-10 v Loughmore.

7.Neil Quinlan JK Brackens
If stylish half backs are Liam Cahill’s thing then the 23 year old JK Brackens man is the man for him. A Harty Cup and Croke Cup winner with Our Lady’s Templemore in 2017, Quinlan has been a one of JKB’s most consistent performers over the past few years.
An excellent reader of the game, his easy running style hides a deceptive turn of pace. Injury halted his progress in the senior championship this year but back fully fit now, We have no doubt that when the Tipp management are looking around for new faces, Neil Quinlan’s name will be in the conversation.

8.Rory Brislane Tommevara
And finally …….. a keeper to consider, Rory Brislane has been in outstanding form for the Greyhounds in the 2023 Tipperary Championship as they surprised many in making a County Semi-Final. Brislanes standout performance this year in the Dan Breen was probably his Round 3 Game v Moycarkey in the Ragg with a Quarter Final Berth at stake. His Footwork is excellent, Puckouts are accurate and facing a Penalty taker won’t phase him as the 2 clips below will show.
V Daryl Ryan, the Roscrea Keeper in this years Group Round 3 Game.
V Darragh Woods Holycross in their 2022 Round 2 Group Game, A Double Save..
