Premier Intermediate Hurling Power Rankings, the 4th Edition of the Year.
Round Robins complete, Prelims set and some hard thinking to be done in other quarters. While others have had their hurling quota for the year.
Two teams needed to use their preliminary quarter-final. It won’t be lost on anyone what Cashel needed to do at this point last year and they wouldn’t have been in the conversation for County Finalists at the time and now look at them.
For Ballina & Eire Óg Annacarty following in their footsteps is a real possibility. Both divisional winners and both narrowly missing out on automatic spots.
This is an intriguing championship. In general the two favourites have been consistent and are both unbeaten in championship action in 2025. Will a last minute goal give the added bit extra to Upperchurch’s charge. Momentum as always is key.
Lets see the movers & shaker in the 4th version of our now infamous Power Rankings.
16. Clonakenny – Performed better in Round 3, but still on the losing side to a far superior Killenaule side. Their scoring average is low but the 1-21 scored in Round 3 will give them a boost going into the dogfight. Worst defence in the County at this level which is a major worry but also the bluntest attack, the form of Cian O’Dwyer (1-12 from play),vital to their chances coupled with an up turn in their scoring form. | Burgess | 82 | 6-56 | 27.33 |
| Clonakenny | 91 | 7-70 | 30.33 |
15. Burgess – Were slightly unlucky not to get something out of the Moneygall game but again ultimately didn’t. The suspension certainly didn’t help. They were quarter-finalists in 2024 so should have fire-power to survive a relegation battle, 11 Players with scores on the board. Down 1
14. Moyne/Templetouhy – Rise a spot for the Mid tipp team. They did enough to beat Thurles Sars but lost out on the 3 way tie co-efficient used in Tipp to separate Teams. Normal score difference would’ve saved them from the relegation dogfight. Whether that is fair or not is irrelevant now however. Will take heart from this performance. Gearoid O’Connor and Cormac Deegan, the 2 main scoring options Up 1
13. Templederry – They have Sean Ryan and Eanna Murray, they will be fine ?. Ryan with 2-06 v Boherlahan in Round 3.The parachuting in of James Woodlock seems to have given them a much needed boost. They need to carry it into next Weekend. Surely a second relegation in 2 years is beyond them ?. No Change

| Stefan Tobin | Carrick Swan | 17 | 2-11 |
| Jason Forde | Silvermines | 17 | 2-11 |
| Sean Nolan | Silvermines | 17 | 2-11 |
12. Sean Treacys – Survived another year at the Premier Intermediate grade and will be delighted. Larry Collins had a day in round 3 with 0-05 from play. Will be thankful to the Burgess motion though that they aren’t in relegation. No Change
11. St. Marys – Done for the year. It was a tall order for them to qualify needing a 10 point win but they will be disappointed not to topple Swan as it was in a low scoring game. They have an u19A County Final now to look forward v Cashel, no shortage of Talent coming. No Change
10. Thurles Sars ‘B’ – A surprising placement considering they are in an automatic qualifying spot. But they lost to Moyne in Round 3 and have lost players upwards. Ballina will relish the chance to oust them in a prelim. Jack Lanigan (2-25) in good form for them however. Down 5
=8. Eire Óg Anacarty – We can’t separate these next two. Dinny Crosse (1-12 from play), Darragh Kelly (3-13 from play), Aidan Griffin (1-09 from play) all in scoring form. The West champions are always dangerous from a preliminary Quarter Final and Eire Óg will be no different. Will need to watch discipline though with 2 reds in Round 3. Up 1
=8. Moneygall – First year up as 2024 Intermediate Champions and into top two spots. A tricky preliminary Quarter Final v Eire Og Anacarty though, which they would’ve hoped to avoid. Forward power is there but need to get Kenneally & Fogarty more involved. No Change
7. Silvermines – Have steadily improved throughout. Didn’t rely as much on Jason Forde v Eire Óg which will please them. Were tipped for a relegation spot earlier and now in a quarter Final. It’s a great Championship all the same. Up 3
6. Ballina – Didn’t qualify via the group stages but were so close. Seconds from dumping the ‘Church out only for the concession of a late goal. Got a great draw in the preliminary v Sars, which they will fancy themselves in. Steven O’Brien made a re-appearance also and if he can get fully fit in these two weeks expect Ballina to be around a while yet. Minors also in the North A Final v Newport also #DarkHorse No Change
5. Killenaule – Another outfit who are improving the longer the Year goes on. Bubbles is a real addition between the sticks and is settling very well for Joe Caesers side. 14 is the spread of scorers so for the South Crew. None of the top sides will want to draw them in a quarter. Down 1
4. Upperchurch/Drombane – Snuck in. Were gone, dead and buried until a late late goal v Ballina gave them oxygen and a 1 point win. And now could really push on in the knockouts. The rest would’ve preferred them gone. Up 3
3. Boherlahan/Dualla – Had qualified early and could rest a couple for Round 3. Will still be disappointed to go down to Templederry at the same time. Tossy Ryan is a real handful. Ger O’Dwyer & Tomás Burke found Sean Ryan hard to deal with though. No Change

2. Carrick Swan – Won their 3 games, won the South and Yet…….we drop them a place. Sometimes it’s just the nature of the wins. Didn’t inspire confidence albeit on a hard weekend to play hurling. Relying heavily on young Calum Lanigan for scores, Stefan Tobin another youngster, next highest Swan Scorer with 2-05 from Play. Down 1
1. Gortnahoe/Glengoole – Like Swan unbeaten this Year in Championship fare. Scoring seriously heavy, top of the Premier Intermediate Pile averaging 0-28 a game at the minute. Darragh Maher & Keane Hayes are senior level hurling forwards. They get the bump to the top spot. Hard to see them not in a Final at this rate, Could they avenge their 2024 Semi-Final defeat to Carrick Swan some time soon ?.Up 1
