Premier Intermediate ToTW after 7 of the 8, Round 1 Games.
1.Enda Dunphy St.Mary’s
The St Mary’s netminder was in superb form in Dundrum on Sunday. Kept a clean sheet, excellent on the restarts and added two pointed frees to boot. Has been in around Tipp panels of late and if he keeps this form up, will push even stronger.
2.Johnny Ryan Boherlahan Dualla
Boherlahan’s performance was note-worthy and so was the ever impressive Johnny Ryan. The teak tough defender chipped in with a point too. Boherlahan gave an impressive defensive stand and Ryan was paramount to that.
3.Liam Ryan St.Mary’s
The former Tipp football panelist has returned from the Middle-East of late and wasted no time in cementing his place in the full-back line. Held the line well and hurled with force on Sunday. Treacys weren’t up to much but Ryan still managed to stand out.
4.Davy Nolan Gortnahoe Glengoole
Some may call Gortnahoe’s victory on Saturday a surprise but those that have been following their fortunes over a number of years see improvements all the time. Davy Nolan epitomized that resilience. His late surge up the field made the winning goal but his defensive work gets him a spot on team of the week.
5.Michael Breen Ballina
Michael Breen needs no introduction. He was instrumental to Ballina’s victory. He scored 6-points(0-5 from frees) and curtailed, as much as anyone can, the influence of Jason Forde on proceedings.
6.Gavin O’Halloran Carrick Swan
The Swan man goes from strength to strength. His ability to accurately cut a side-line makes him a threat anywhere on the field,He managed to 0-02 off them last Weekend. The Swan put to bed the notion that Upperchurch would easily go back up and O’Halloran held the center superbly in that victory.
7.Johnny Mulqueen Burgess
The Burgess wing-back was a colossus in their victory over Killenaule. He roamed from the half-line and contributed 1-1 of their total. The North champions laid down a fair marker and Mulqueen was to the fore-front.
8.Euan Ryan Boherlahan Dualla
The newly promoted Boherlahan showed their rising tide in dispatching fellow Mid-men in Round 1. Euan Ryan showed his midfield prowess with 3-points from play and was generally a nuisance all day around the middle.
9.Tommy Maher Thurles Sarsfields
Sars second team is loaded with underage stars and Tommy Maher fits that bill. 0-27 to run up in any game is a fair score at any grade and Tommy Maher had 0-06 of that. Maher’s general play had Newport at 6s & 7s. How long will he stay on the Sars ‘B’ team?.
10.Tossy Ryan Boherlahan Dualla
Tossy Ryan was at the fore-front of Boherlahans 2023 Intermediate title charge and shows no sign of slowing down. His quick thinking and running keeps the opposition on their toes and his accuracy in front of goal is exceptional. 0-9 in total with 0-4 from play is a brilliant return.
11.Callum Lanigan Carrick Swan
In 2022 Lanigan was in the running for our Minor hurler of the year having made the Premierview Podcast Listeners Minor Team of the Year at Centre Forward, if he keeps up this form he’ll be in the running for Premier Intermediate Player of the year in his 19th year. The Swan young man has taken to adult hurling like a duck to water. 1-08 in total with 1-04 from play was one of the main reasons the Swan upset the favorites.
12.Keane Hayes Gortnahoe Glengoole
0-63 scored in the 2023 Championship,Hayes has long been Gortnahoe’s go-to guy and he was that again on Saturday. When the South crew needed it their big players stood up and Keane Hayes got the vital winning goal in the 60th minute against Cashel. Top scorer in the Premier Intermediate overall from play in Round 1 with 1-05 and another 0-03 off frees to his tally too.
13.Stephen Kirwan Burgess
An exceptional display on a team that produced the best performance of the weekend. Kirwan was outstanding. 1-03 from play yet wasn’t even the best player on his team. The 2 Stephen’s, a real force for Burgess.
14.Jason Forde Silvermines
Forde is putting Silvermines up on his back. But he will need some help if they are to get their season back on track as they had only 2 other scorers in Round 1,the lowest of any Club across the 3 grades last Weekend. Had a tremendous duel with Michael Breen. Forde had 0-14 of his sides total of 1-17. He got five from play himself.
15.Stephen Murray Burgess
In a tale of two Stephens, Murray comes out marginally on top. He finished with 0-11, 0-06 from placed balls and his sideline cut was a joy to behold. If you’re to stop Burgess you need to stop Murray. Easier said than done however.
Player of the Week – Stephen Murray (Burgess)
Rising Star – Callum Lanigan (Carrick Swan)
