Senior Club Football Power Rankings Updated
With 3 Teams to be relegated out of Senior Football this year the pressure is really starting to build now.
Across the 4 groups, Moyle Rovers on 0 points with 2 losses from 2 games in Group 4 ,Arravale Rovers in the exact same position in Group 3 as Moyle,0 Points 2 Games Played.
Ditto for Ardfinnan in Group 2,2 losses and 0 points and and Kilsheelan/Kilcash are in the same boat with nul points and 2 played.
These 4 currently have their arses in the bacon slicer and its about to be plugged in, but all is not lost just yet ,a win could transform fortunes.
There’s also been a transformation from our first edition of the Senior Club Football Power Rankings.
6 Clubs are headed down the rankings with 1 in a potential death spiral of down 8 Places,9 have jumped up the Rankings, with 1 static in their position.
Credit for the Rankings as always goes to Big John of the Premierview.
16.-Arravale Rovers – Down 5.
A very disappointing year for the Tipperary town side and after two rounds they are now in a relegation dogfight to save their senior status.
15.-Eire Og Annacarthy – Down 2.
They looked to have secured their Senior status by beating Drom-Inch in the first round but a heavy defeat to Commercials in Round 2 has them back in the relegation fight where they will have to beat Kilsheelan-Kilcash to avoid the relegation play-offs. That’s a big ask but never write off Eire Og Annacarthy.
14.-Moycarkey Borris – Up 2.
In our original rankings We said that Moycarkey didn’t employ Eddie Brennan to win football matches. That proved to be a stupid statement when they caused the biggest shock in years by beating Loughmore-Castleiney in Round 1. Even though mathematically they can still qualify for the quarterfinals, they will need to produce another massive shock against Ardfinnan in the last round.
13.-Ardfinnan – Down 4.
Down from ninth and although they have put in decent performances against Ballina and Loughmore they lost both games. They need to beat Moycarkey now to avoid the relegation play-offs.
12.-Moyle Rovers – Down 8.
We had them at No 4 in our original rankings but losses to Jk Brackens and Ballyporeen sees them propping up the table in group 4. They can still qualify for Q/F’s by beating Ballyporeen but they also need Brackens to beat Rockwell Rovers so qualification isn’t in their own hands.
11.-Kilsheelan/Kilcash – Down 4.
We have dropped them from seventh in the rankings after two losses from two games. That form wouldn’t normally be good enough to qualify for a quarter-final but if they can get over Eire Og in the last round then they may just get there.
10.-Cahir – Up 5.
Possibly unlucky not to even higher but somebody has to be ranked No 10. Still it is a jump of 5 places since our last rankings. A good performance against Upperchurch and a great win over Arravale sees them in a straight shoot-out with Killenaule to get to a quarter-final.
9.-Drom & Inch – Up 5.
They looked to be facing relegation after losing to Eire Og in round 1 but bounced right back with a well deserved win over a fancied Kilsheelan side last weekend. For that we have moved them up 5 places in the rankings even though they had a huge battle to qualify for the quarter-finals as they may just need a draw or a win against Commercials in the last game.
8.- Killenaule – Up 4.
The Robins had an opening round win with a very impressive performance against Arravale before going down to Upperchurch in monsoon conditions last Friday night. They now have a straight shoot out against Cahir to reach the last eight. Based on their opening days performance we have moved them up 4 places to Number 8.
7.- Rockwell Rovers – Up 1.
A brilliant win over Moyle Rovers last weekend sees them remain in eighth place in our rankings. They have Jk Brackens next up and probably have to win to remain in the competition but it certainly wouldn’t be the shock of the century if they did win that game.
And yes,we realize that we have three teams from Group 4 in the top 7 but these are Power Rankings on what we’ve seen so far and not a piece on who we think will qualify for the quarterfinals.
6.-Ballyporeen – Up 5.
An opening day win over Rockwell Rovers and a decent performance against Jk Brackens sees Bally rise five places to No 6.
5.-Loughmore Castleiney – Down 3.
After the shock of losing to Moycarkey-Borris in Round 1, the Mid team got back on track with a win against Ardfinnan last Saturday. We have dropped them 3 places in the rankings.
4.-Ballina – Up 2.
The talk of this year’s championship. We originally had them ranked at 6 but impressive performances against Ardfinnan and Moycarkey sees them deservingly jump into the Top 4.
3.-Jk Brackens – Up 2.
Comeback wins over Moyle Rovers and Ballyporeen also sees the Templemore side move up two spots in the rankings to number 3.
2.-Upperchurch/Drombane – Up 1.
Last years beaten finalists have gone about their business with the minimum of fuss and move up one place to No 2 in the Football charts.
1.-Clonmel Commercials – No change.
With two wins from two, the County Champions retain their spot at No 1 in our Power Rankings and don’t look like being shifted anytime soon.
