Senior Hurling Power Rankings all to play for,in Round 2 this coming Weekend.
The more it changes the more it stays the same. Loughmore do Loughmore things and come away with the two points. Kiladangan ruthless against Clonoulty. And what about Holycross. Underage success starting to bear fruit? Time will tell. A ‘new’ dark horse also….
16. Roscrea – Performed better in round 1 than in the North Championship but still came up very short. A wounded Borris-Ileigh in round 2 and then Kilruane in round 3 means this is a very tough group for Roscrea. A loss this weekend and eyes will turn to survival in the 2025 Senior Championship. No Change
15. Lorrha/Dorrha – Second Year up in Senior, Went out and tried to hurl against JK Brackens in round one and paid the price. Conceded 2-28 and in truth weren’t ever really in it. Drom and Inch up next, one to watch for a surprise, Paddy Power have them currently at 9/2 which, We feel is generous. Back into the relegation trenches if no positive result. No Change
14. Mullinahone – Slipped away against Cashel. Probably the game they were targeting all along. Thurles Sars and Nenagh to come, We don’t see it getting any better for Mullinahone unfortunately. No Change
13. Clonoulty/Rossmore – The toughest group for the West Champions. Round 2 is like moving weekend at the Masters though and a win here will see them soar up the table. It’s Toome though and they need to win too. The Preliminary Quarter Final is in the pocket for the men from the West but they’ll want to avoid a relegation battle. Down 4
12. Borris-Ileigh – A torrid second half for Borris against Kilruane. Maybe they were suffering the hangover from the North Final defeat and McDonaghs had more time to prepare. Will need to and should get back on the horse against Roscrea and line up a grandstand final day v Moycarkey. Down 4
11. Cashel King Cormacs – A first win at the Senior grade in round 1 is always sweet. The Connollys, Eoghan (1-05) and Ronan (0-04 from play), were in top form. Won’t give Nenagh the room that Thurles did but still a tall order in round 2. Goal accomplished though for the King Cormacs and everything a bonus from here. Up 2
10. Drom & Inch – Surprised Us in round 1 and very unlucky to fall to some McGrath magic at the end of the game. They were closer than anticipated, Cormac Fitzpatrick in the second half was a standout. Can they back up the performance against a dogged Lorrha though ?. A loss will surely send either to the relegation minefield. A lot on the line. Up 2
9. Toomevara – Oh We are torn on this one. Toome were very poor in the first half and over ran by Holycross but settled nicely and reduced the deficit to two but couldn’t get closer. Looked at sea in midfield and the full-backline at times. A huge game with Clonoulty incoming. Down 5
8. Thurles Sars – The only team in the top 8 that didn’t win. Why? Well because we think they will still win the remaining two and qualify. They will need to up their game. Gave Mikey Heffernan (0-10 and 0-06 from frees) the run of The Ragg the last day. Should have too much for Mullinahone. We’re sure they’ll be up for it. Down 5
7. Kilruane McDonaghs – Turned around a North semi-final defeat to Borris and really powered on in the second half. Jerry Cahill (0-04 from play) and the 3 Clearys in top form with 0-09 between them. Will be an interesting bout with Moycarkey and We will see where both teams are. Up 3
6. JK Brackens – No change for the Templemore outfit. We expected them to win and will have tougher days. They did what was needed. Shane Doyle injury in the football may hamper things though. He was immense in Round 1. No Change
5. Moycarkey/Borris – As with Brackens, Moycarkey got an expected victory. Didn’t light it up but did enough to qualify. Some silly wides from long range will need to be tightened up however. No Change
4. Nenagh Eire Óg – Well worth their victory over Thurles. Sam O’Farrell with a man of the match performance, Mikey Heffernan not far behind. If Nenagh can stay rolling they may be a dark horse. Should qualify top now and will have it done this weekend. Up 6

3. Holycross/Ballycahill – Starting to show the form we knew they had. And this is without two County stars in Jim Ryan and Bryan O’Mara. Mikie Nally lit up round 1 (0-04 from play) while Cathal O’Reilly showed his tigerish best while Cathal Barrett back from upfield exploits last Year, was solid out beside him. Concession of frees nearly caught them though and will need to be monitored. Up 4
2. Kiladanagan – Were always in control in Templemore against Clonoulty. The team to beat in this group. What a test Holycross will be now though. Willie Connors continues his excellent Tipperary and North Championship form into the Dan Breen (0-03 off frees and 0-03 from play). No Change
1. Loughmore/Castleiney – They do what they do. Just about got over the line in a derby but did we ever really doubt them ?. This time it was Aidan McGrath from distance with a peach of a point. John was still scoring goals and finished with 2-09. Another Mid derby v the Brackens upcoming though. This one will be a humdinger. No Change
