Senior Hurling Power Rankings, the tale of the tape.
The dust has settled on the preliminary quarter-finals of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. Toomevara, Drom & Inch, and Kilruane MacDonaghs advanced, while the trio of Divisional Champions, JK Brackens, Clonoulty/Rossmore, and Kiladangan exited the stage.
With knockout hurling now fully in swing, We’ve expanded the Premier ’View Power Rankings to include scoring totals, total scores, players who’ve contributed, and standout individual performances. With the Quarter Finals and relegation Semi Final battles set for this weekend, the pressure is definitely ramping up.
16. Mullinahone
Mullinahone have struggled badly, scoring just 20.7 a game on average which equated to 54 separate scores across their campaign. Their concession rate of 29.3 average per game leaves them exposed. Critically, they’ve lacked depth, 9 players have scored for them, with no standout tally man. They face Clonoulty in the relegation semi-final (Sunday 28th, 4pm, Cashel) with everything on the line.
15. Roscrea
Hitting a 0-20 average , which translates to 56 total scores, spread across 13 different players — proof of decent spread but no cutting edge. They conceded 0-26 per game on average, leaving them in deep trouble. Shane Fletcher (0-18 in total, with 0-01 from play) has led the way, with Evan Fitzpatrick (0-6 from play) offering flashes. Their season now comes down to the relegation semi-final vs Lorrha on Saturday 27th, 4pm in Cloughjordan.
14. Lorrha/Dorrha
Scored a 24.3 per game average, which puts them just inside the Top 10 of attacks within the County, with 61 total scores across just 10 scorers, among the lowest spread in the county. Defensively, they’ve been porous, the Worst in the 2025 Senior Hurling Championship, conceding a whopping 0-34 per game. Colm Fogarty (0-26) is their standout, with Conor Kennedy (0-6 from play) and Cian Hogan with (2-06 from play) chipping in. A big test awaits in Cloughjordan against Roscrea on Saturday.
13. Clonoulty/Rossmore
The West Champions have registered a 25.8 average, which equals 87 scores shared across 14 players. Their forward unit has carried the fight, but they’ve conceded a 0-29 average . Stephen Ferncombe (5-42) tops not only their charts but the entire Senior Hurling Championship. Despite this, their campaign is in a survival battle vs Mullinahone on Sunday 28th, 4pm in Cashel.
12. Borris-Ileigh
Scored 22.33 per game on average , with their 59 scores coming from 11 contributors. Their balance was poor though, no other player beyond Eddie Ryan (1-17) reached double figures. The third best defence in the Senior Hurling Championship with an average conceded of 22.33 per game, equalled their scoring tally, leaving them stranded in mediocrity.
11. Thurles Sarsfields
Managed a 0-25 average, with 67 scores overall. The club’s scoring spread is usually broad, but this year no one reached the county’s top scorer lists. They conceded 0-24 average, underlining their frustrating near-miss. The fact that over a dozen players chipped in shows depth, but not enough firepower to crack the quarter-finals.
10. JK Brackens
This Year’s Mid Champions managed a per game 23.8 scoring average, equating to 85 scores from 14 scorers. Shane Doyle (2-31) was central, while Lyndon Fairbrother (0-6 from play) and Jamie Ormond with (0-11 from Play) added to the spread. Yet they conceded 26.8 per game, cancelling out their scoring efforts. A Worrying dip in form after their Mid Exploits and the Lorrha game, put paid to their Dan Breen Hopes.
9. Kiladangan
Their return of a 22.5 per game average translated into 74 scores across 12 scorers. Willie Connors (1-15), Bryan McLoughney (0-7 from play) and Paul Flynn (0-11 from play) were amongst their best, but nowhere near enough to cover their conceded 27.3 average. For a team of their calibre, it was an unexpectedly poor campaign.
8. Nenagh Éire Óg
Nenagh’s 26.7 average has produced 68 scores. The concern? The data is telling us that fewer than ten regular scorers have contributed, underlining reliance on a smaller core, Mikey Heffernan being the main threat particularly off frees with 1-29. Their defence, however, is rock solid only 20.7 of an average conceded. They face near neighbours Kilruane in the quarter-final on Sunday 28th, 4pm in Semple Stadium in what will be their season-defining clash.
7. Drom & Inch
Second in the county in scoring, 0-29 per game, with their 94 scores spread across 15 scorers. The Green Flag Team in the Senior Hurling Championship with 11 already. However, they have also conceded an average of 26.25, the 10th best defence in the Senior Hurling Championship, leaving them vulnerable. Seamus Callanan (2-29) remains talisman with young Cormac Fitzpatrick (1-14 from play) backing him up. Their attacking depth gives them hope in their quarter-final vs Moycarkey on Sunday 28th, 2pm in Semple Stadium.
6. Kilruane MacDonaghs
Posted a scoring 26.3 average, equal to 95 scores from 12 players. Willie Cleary (0-36) leads their charts, while Shane Cleary (0-8 from play), Kian O’Kelly with (2-06 from Play) and Cian Darcy (1-10) also from play, have all showed showed sharpness. Conceding a 23.5 average highlights their resilience. They meet Nenagh in the quarter-final on Sunday 28th, 4pm in Semple Stadium.
5. Cashel King Cormacs
A brilliant story out of the West this Year. 24.3 average equals 67 scores across 10 scorers, not the widest spread but highly efficient. Defensively superb, conceding just a 22.7 per game average and only 2 Goals scored against them so far. Eoghan Connolly (2-13) and Ger Browne (0-9 from play) are pivotal. They meet Holycross in a novel quarter-final on Saturday 27th, 2.30pm in Semple Stadium.
4. Moycarkey-Borris
Scored a per 27.3 average , which translates to 68 scores from 13 contributors. Kieran Morris (2-25) remains a rock, with Max Hackett (0-9 from play) adding younger energy. Their per game concession tally of 25.7 average suggests vulnerability, but they’ll be dangerous in the quarter-final vs Drom & Inch, Sunday 28th, 2pm in Semple Stadium.
3. Toomevara
Reliable and balanced. 25.5 average equals 98 scores across 13 players — proof of depth and spread in last Year’s Beaten Finalists. They also own the best defence in the County Just 78 scores conceded (19.5 average). Darragh McCarthy (2-45) leads the line, with Jack Delaney (0-11 from play) vital. They now face Champions, Loughmore in the quarter-final on Saturday 27th, 4.30pm in Semple Stadium.
2. Holycross-Ballycahill
Hit 86 scores so far (28.7 average), equating to 70 scores from 15 different players — impressive depth. Conceded 80 scores (26.7) but their firepower makes them genuine contenders. Darragh Woods (1-28) is their leader, with David Fogarty (1-04 from play) and Mike Nally (2-04 from play) offering an extra edge. They face Cashel in the quarter-final on Saturday 27th, 2.30pm in Semple Stadium.
1. Loughmore-Castleiney
Still the benchmark. 97 scores (32.3 average) equals 83 scores across 18 different scorers — the widest spread of any team. Conceded only 69 scores (23 average), showing complete balance. John McGrath (3-33, 3-07 from play) leads, supported by Noel McGrath (0-10 from play) and Ciaran Connolly (0-4 from play). Their quarter-final vs Toomevara (Saturday 27th, 4.30pm in Semple Stadium) will test their supremacy.
